Meet Your Instructors

Hey there! We are glad you are here. We share a passion for education, the outdoors, and equipping others with meaningful life skills. Darrin and I are credentialed teachers with experience in public, charter, and homeschool settings. Darrin holds two master’s degrees, including one in education. I (Kristie) am a Wilderness First Responder, an herbalist, a Rev Wild Outdoor Leader, and a certified nature journaling instructor. Both of us are NASP Archery instructors. We are outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy backpacking, hiking, and exploring nature with our three girls. I have also taught community classes on sourdough, fermentation, food preservation, and natural remedies. Darrin loves history, playing guitar, and rebuilding old cars. Attending Acres was inspired by the challenges our dyslexic daughter faced in the classroom. We aim to create a space that builds confidence and fosters a love for the outdoors. This legacy of valuable life skills is what we want to share with others.

Practical Hands On Skills

“Our children ages 4-15 loved their time at Attending Acres learning all about outdoor survival skills. The hands on practicality of classes kept our kids engaged and eager to learn. So thankful for Kristie creating such a needed and wonderful program for children in our area.”

“Kristie always provides the best activities that are age appropriate and engaging. She is a natural teacher so the kids easily understand what she is teaching. My kids love the cooking projects and science. There is nothing like this in our area and I am so grateful to Kristie for providing this opportunity for my kids.”

Engaging

“My girls loved attending class and learning easy practical things they could use at home. The hands on activities kept it exciting and my kids had a blast! Kristie has so much knowledge and I’m glad my girls were able to learn from her in an outside classroom. We will definitely join the next session of classes.”
